Hebgen Lake

We left West Yellowstone about 11:00 am on the ATV and headed out on a trail close to the Grizzle RV Park. We then crossed HWY 20 and rode on the forest service roads to Hebgen Lake. We ate lunch at the point where the Madison River and the South Fork Arm of the Madison came together. It was quiet and people were out fishing. Today was another beautiful day in the 70’s and blue skies.

Hebgen Lake is approximately fifteen miles long and four miles wide and has been called the premier stillwater fishing lake in Montana. It is a man-made lake, retained by an earth-fill dam. It was and is a popular vacation and fishing spot, near Yellowstone National Park.

After lunch, we drove through areas where cabins lined the shores of the Madison River Arm of Hebgen Lake. We passed areas where a forest fire had destroyed much of the forest. We rode back to West Yellowstone. Another glorious day in the mountains.

Lionhead - Montana

Lionhead is a mountain summit in Gallatin County in the state of Montana. Lionhead climbs to 9,547 feet (2,909.93 meters) above sea level.

The only wildlife we saw on the trail.

Trail was well marked and went through beautiful meadows with wildflowers.

Toward the end of the trail we were able to view the Yellowstone valley.
